Tapazole 5mg

Drug Shortage

We received an email from Paladin Pharma on Aug. 6th, 2024, announcing that the antithyroid drug Tapazole (Methimazole) 5mg dose will be unavailable for an indefinite period.

Our medical advisor reported to us that this will have an impact on patients.  While there is a 10 mg dose, it may be hard for some patients on 2.5 mg to get the appropriate dose.

We contacted Paladin Pharma to get more information.  It appears that Paladin Pharma is a reseller of this product and is experiencing a “supplier disruption” for the Tapazole 5mg.   There is no estimate for when the product will be available again.

We have informed the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (CSEM) and they will be raising the issue with Health Canada.
