On November 18, 2019, we received a guideline release from the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care (CTFPHC) on “Recommendations on screening adults for asymptomatic thyroid dysfunction in primary care”. CTFPHC recommends against screening asymptomatic non-pregnant adults aged 18 years of age and older for thyroid dysfunction in primary care settings.  They provide a rationale and scientific evidence for this recommendation.  New statistics are provided for thyroid disease in Canada.  “An estimated 10% of Canadians aged 45 years or older report that they have been diagnosed with thyroid dysfunction, and prevalence is higher in women (16%) than in men (4%).”
