HSO Medication Management
|
The Health Standards Organization (HSO) is inviting public input on a draft national standard: CAN/HSO 3001:2025 – Medication Management. This standard will help shape how medications are prescribed, monitored, and managed across Canada’s healthcare system.
Why this matters to our community
Many people living with thyroid disease face daily challenges managing lifelong medications. These challenges – like dose titration, access to therapeutic alternatives, and inconsistent monitoring can deeply impact quality of life. That’s why the Thyroid Foundation of Canada (TFC) participated in the public review process and submitted formal patient group feedback to HSO.
What we shared as the Thyroid Foundation of Canada
We emphasized that the standard must better reflect the realities of chronic care, including:
- The complexity of long-term dose adjustments
- Confusion around switching brands and compounded medications
- Risks tied to lab result interference (e.g., biotin)
- The need for stronger continuity between primary care and endocrinology
How you can get involved
We encourage all members of our community to:
- Read the draft standard – https://healthstandards.org/files/40-MedicationManagement-PR-ENG-17June2025.pdf
- Share your lived experience or insights through the public survey – https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/SL2MQ7W
- Help ensure this standard works for patients, not just providers
The public review is open until August 18, 2025.
